Fresh firepower for McDowell as he seeks Barclays double
In-form Graeme McDowell could debut a new driver as he bids for a Barclays double at the US$6 million Singapore Open this week.
McDowell, who won the Barclays Scottish Open at Loch Lomond three years ago, placed third in the WGC Champions event in Shanghai last week, shooting four straight rounds in the 60s.
The 32-year-old Northern Irishman was given a further lift when he checked into his hotel near Sentosa Golf Club as a shiny new driver was waiting for him.
“Nice surprise waiting in room here in Singapore. Hot off the production line. Prototype @Cleveland Golf Classic driver,” he wrote on Twitter.
“Old school persimmon lines with 21st century technology inside. It's built on the @ClevelandGolf 290 Launcher platform.
“Love deep face drivers. Cannot wait to hit this (in practice)”.
www.europeantour.com are tipping McDowell, with or without new driver in the bag, as one of the tournament favourites.
