Playoff suspended by lightning storm at Barclays Singapore Open
A thunderstorm stopped play at the US$6 million Barclays Singapore Open on Sunday just after Filipino Juvic Pagunsan and Gonzalo Fernandez-Castono of Spain had teed off at the 18th in a playoff for the title and the first prize of US$1 million.
Pagunsan holed a 12-foot birdie putt at the last for a 67 on the Serapong Course at Sentosa Golf Club to post a 14-under-par total of 199.
Fernandez-Castano, who was five shots ahead of the Filipino going into the final round, drove into the water on the finalhole but tied Pagunsan with a sliding par putt of 15 feet.
Fernandez-Castano struggled with his swing on the final round and carded a one over 72
South Africa’s Louis Oosthuizen, the 2010 British Open champion, and resurgent American Anthony Kim finished in a tie for third, a shot behind.
